These too cause cracked and broken slides and frames due to the excessive CLOSING force of the slide. Hotter ammo causes cracked and broken slides and frames. ![]() The P-38/P1 can certainly be carried as a CCW, however the 8 round magazine is somewhat "old school" and the thick slide makes concealment a little harder. Same gun, just different marks for different buyers. This is something like the US Model 1911 pistol and the Colt Government Model. Take a good look at the frame and if it is aluminum then you have a P1 frame. They are "basically" the exact same gun only the P-38 marked for commercial and German police sales, the P1 as marked for use by the West German military. It is my understanding the P1 had an aluminum alloy frame where the P38 was steel. The major difference between the post-war P-38 and the P1 are the stamps on the slide. Other than a VERY few special models, all the POST-WAR P-38's have an aluminum frame.
